Edema
The abnormal accumulation of fluid in the body’s tissue. Compression garments are worn to help prevent occurrence, control excess fluid and minimize long term complications. These compression garments can range from light support hose, to medium strength prescribed compression.
DVT
The formation of a blood clot in a deep vein. A compression garment is usually prescribed after treatment for the blood clot has commenced, and some of the inflammation has come down.A compression garment is used to help prevent recurrence by increasing blood flow.
Venous Insufficiency
Venous Insufficiency and Compression
Swelling and/or skin discolouration caused when the veins are unable to pump enough blood back to the heart. Medical compression stocking provide graduated compression to the valves in the veins to increase blood flow back to the heart.

Breast cancer treatment presents a unique set of challenges. After breast cancer treatment, localized swelling is normal, but you may be at risk of developing lymphedema. If no symptoms arise following your surgery, some women feel more comfortable wearing a compression sleeve as a preventative measure to help minimize the risk of developing lymphedema. Lymphedema is sometimes triggered by repetitive motion in a hard working arm, ie: gardening, shovelling the drive way on the first snow fall or baking. If you feel a heaviness in your arm after participating in an activity this could be an early sign that you may be prone to a flare up. We recommend that durning these activities you wear a compression garment. It does not mean you have to wear it everyday, all day. Another activity that seems to give woman problems is flying, especially when flights last longer than 2 hours. Again this does not happen to everyone, but if you wish to be proactive, these are times that you may consider a compression garment. CertiCare provides custom fit compression garments as well as elegancy mastectomy products that will provide confidence and comfort.
Travel
Travel Support
A travel sock for flying is sometimes recommended for prophylactic reasons. When sitting for longer periods of time and not moving could lead to blood clots. The light compression in these travel socks promotes circulation in an otherwise healthy vein. Compression stockings and socks provide external support to the vein walls. They help minimize and control leg and ankle swelling.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy and Compression
Durning pregnancy, a woman’s body goes through many changes, including and increase in blood volume and fluid. This fluid may cause swelling, often in the legs, ankles and feet. Pregnant woman are susceptible to varicose veins. Maternity compression stockings provide external support to the vein walls durning pregnancy.
